Buxton School
A progressive high school located in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts, Buxton is a small, academically robust school known for its strong arts program and expert faculty members.
A Small, Elite Boarding School that Offers Personalized Education and a Unique “No Grades” System
With just over 50 students, Buxton offers small classes, accessible teachers and a 4:1 student-to-faculty ratio. This allows students to learn in an environment where they can explore both traditional and unconventional subjects, including college-level electives. Three times a year, students receive written reports from their teachers and also conduct their own self-evaluation.
Buxton is Ranked #14 Best High School for the Arts
Buxton offers students an unparalleled arts curriculum. Classes consist of no more than five students, each working at their own pace. Students are also invited to use the school’s art studios outside of their class time, allowing them to continue to develop their talents. The school also provides students with visits to art museums, off-campus assignments, workshops with visiting artists, evening/weekend events and Student Art Shows.
Innovative “Work Program” Where Students Take Part in Hands-On Work
All Buxton students are required to participate in a twice weekly “Work Program,” where they perform on-campus tasks. This deeply loved part of the Buxton experience may include chopping wood, working in the theater department’s crew, cooking and baking, gardening, snow and ice removal, caring for animals in the biology lab and more.
